Office 2007 has reached the end of its support lifecycle, meaning there are no new security updates, non-security updates, free or paid assisted support options, or online technical content updates. Customers who are using Office 2007 products and services should move to Office 365 or upgrade to the most recent version of Office.

The versions of Microsoft Visio include 1.0 to 5.0, 2000, 2002, 2003, and 2007. Microsoft revealed Visio 2010 as the official successor of Office Visio 2007. Microsoft gained control of Visio when it was in the fifth edition and released version 2000.

Ribbons first appeared in Visio 2010 to offer increased access to toolbars. The ribbons are available on Visio 2010 and its successors. The 2007 versions of Word, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint, and Excel already had this feature.

Version 2007 didn't allow users to visualize data from Excel spreadsheets. Its successor lets you convert process map data in spreadsheets to diagrams. The data may come from various external sources.

Today at the Interop New York 2006 information technology exposition and conference, Microsoft demonstrated how Visio 2007 can help organizations render complex information in simple-to-understand graphics. PressPass asked Richard Wolf, general manager of the Office Graphics Division at Microsoft, to explain the thinking behind the new features.

As part of our partner program, we are also introducing a new competency in data visualization. Visio 2007 is one of the core pillars in this new area of specialization within the IW competency area of the partner program. This competency will help our partners develop new skills around graphics and visual tools as part of becoming a certified solution provider.

Along with Microsoft Visio 2002 Professional, Microsoft introduced Visio Enterprise Network Tools and Visio Network Center. Visio Enterprise Network Tools was an add-on product that enabled automated network and directory services diagramming. Visio Network Center was a subscription-based website where users could locate the latest network documentation content and exact-replica network equipment shapes from 500 leading manufacturers.[13] Visio Enterprise Network Tools was discontinued in July 2002.[14] The following year, Microsoft released a patch which gave Enterprise Network Tools users access to the network equipment shapes via Visio's built-in Find Shape feature.[15] Visio 2007 was released on November 30, 2006.

Microsoft Visio adopted ribbons in its user interface in Visio 2010.[16] Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook (to some extents) had already adopted the ribbon with the release of Microsoft Office 2007.[17]

In Office 2007 versions of Visio and PowerPoint, you still cannot insert Visio 2007 content into PowerPoint 2007 as a native Visio drawing. You'll need to link to an existing or newly-created Visio drawing as an object, or export from Visio to a graphic format and thereafter import it into PowerPoint 2007. Between the two methods, you'll have to choose the latter if you want to transport your presentation to a system without Visio installed. Let's first examine the Insert Object route:

Recently I decided to up my Visio-fu, and also to settle on a set of standard templates and shapes for my network diagrams. A quick browse around Safari Books Online turned up three Visio tomes, so on a quiet weekend morning I thumbed through Microsoft Office Visio 2007 Inside Out. Here are some tips and tricks I picked up along the way:
